Most California taxpayers have until October 16, 2023 to file and pay their federal and state income taxes.

Due to the flooding and mudslides that occurred in late 2022 and early 2023, both the IRS and Franchise Tax Board have extended the filing deadline and payment deadline for individual and business taxes in the counties listed below:

List of counties

If you reside or have a business in any of the listed counties, you can file and pay your taxes by October 16 without filing an extension or being penalized. The extended deadline also applies to your estimated tax payments for the first, second and third quarters of 2023, if applicable.

For our clients who are entitled to the delayed deadline, we are working on a somewhat normal tax season timeline to get returns out by, or around April 15. If you have a refund on your return, we will file the return right away so that you can get it as soon as possible. If you owe on your tax return, we can wait to file and pay your taxes if you wish. We will provide you with your quarterly estimate payments, but you will not be required to pay the first three quarters until October 16, 2023.
